Our Story
Our relationship has endured time zones, airports, and Peter’s talking — which means marriage should be a breeze.
How We Met
We met at work — not the glamorous kind of workplace you see in movies, but the chaotic, how-is-this-allowed-to-function kind. Peter was living in England, Kristen was in Boston, and somehow in the middle of time zones, deadlines, and general workplace madness, we became fast friends. Very fast. The kind of friends who immediately become each other's confidant, sounding board, and “you won’t believe what just happened” person.
The Proposal
Peter proposed in Iceland on Kristen’s 40th birthday — because nothing says “low pressure” like combining a milestone birthday with a life-altering question. We were overlooking one of the largest glaciers on the South Coast, conveniently located next to Diamond Beach, where chunks of ice wash ashore and sparkle like actual diamonds. Very on-theme. Suspiciously on-theme.
After a few glasses of champagne (for warmth, obviously), we went out to explore the scenery at “night,” which in Iceland in January is essentially the entire day. While surrounded by frozen ocean, volcanic sand, and giant pieces of glacier casually lying around, Peter dropped to one knee. Kristen said yes, partly out of joy and partly because standing still in subzero temperatures didn’t seem like a sustainable long-term plan.
It was dramatic, freezing, and extremely us.
Our Journey Together
Our relationship has taken us across a good portion of the world map — from the beaches of Dominica to the mountains of Switzerland, through Spain, Ireland, Morocco, Colombia (just to name a few!). We’ve explored cities, wandered coastlines, chased rainbows, and developed a shared appreciation for purposely getting lost in beautiful places and local pubs. Travel became our rhythm, our hobby, and occasionally our personality during our long-distance courtship.
Back home together now, life is just as full. Summers mean beach days on Nantucket or the Cape, fall is dedicated to hiking & leaf peeping in Vermont and Maine, and winter brings snowshoeing adventures with Finn — our husky who is not in charge, no matter what he decides to tell people. Whether we’re hiking, beach-hopping, or just trying to get Finn to pose for one normal photo, we’ve built a life that feels like an adventure of its own.
And now, we’re excited for the next one: getting married.
